Rose Lily Bridal Designs know that your Tiara and Jewellery are almost as important as the dress itself! They understand that even the smallest detail matters and they have a beautiful selection of accessories that will add that touch of glamour and sparkle on your special day.

They offer a range of styles to suit any wedding theme, tradition, contemporary, classic or vintage.   If you don’t find what you want online they offer a bespoke service to help design your perfect piece of luxury, at no extra cost.

All their Tiaras and Jewellery are made from the best quality materials, Swarovski crystals, glass pearls and that extra little bit of sparkle.  Available to suit every budget in silver, gold plate or sterling silver, the choice is yours.

Rose Lily Bridal Designs is the creation of Tracey Rose and she says …..

“I’ve been making jewellery as far back as I can remember, back to when I was a little girl sitting with my grandma getting all excited about the pieces of broken beads and brooches she had.  From those moments I’d sit and design my own jewellery from all those discarded pieces and turn myself into a princess. (Every little girls dream)
I continued to make my own jewellery through college and into adulthood, giving them as gifts to friends and family”
“I realised that when I made my jewellery I felt those same feelings I had as a young child. This is what stemmed the idea of making wedding jewellery and tiaras, so that every ‘big girl’ could be a princess. My hope is for every bride or bridesmaid to feel even just a small amount of that love and joy I feel when creating each piece and to have helped create their very own ‘princess’ moment”

Phase Eight Occasion Wear for Women Over 40

As you know we are fans of the high street bride and we featured the latest collection of Phase Eight Wedding dresses on the blog a few weeks ago. Today we would like to bring to you a little hint of what else you can find in store to create the perfect wedding guest outfit.

Phase Eight have a wide selection of dresses and skirts in a variety of colours with coordinating jackets, shoes, bags and jewellery, it really is a one stop shop.

If I were to choose my own wedding guest outfit from the vast collection of items, my choice would be below:

This dress has a very flattering shape and the two tone block colours and bow detail give it a sixties feel which is one of my favourite eras. The black slingbacks would be ideal to show off a french manicured toenail or nude nail polish. The fascinator also has a bow detail which would blend in with the dress and the oyster coloured clutch would soften the black at the bottom of the dress when held in the hand.  There are also jackets available but I personally would not wear one.  A perfect display of classic elegance…. and totally me!

Darcy Grosgrain Bow Dress – £130

Ruth Fascinator – £55

Hope Bow Clutchbag £49

Sophie Bow Slingback shoes £99

Another stunning dress that caught our eye is called ‘Sweetheart’ and as it is valentines week we thought it was a very apt choice. It is a beautiful grosgrain dress in a shade called poppy, with off the shoulder straps and a fitted bodice. Ideal for guests or bridesmaids.

Sweetheart Dress –  £150

As for the wonderful bridal collection my own personal favourite Phase Eight Wedding Dress is the ‘Evelyn’ lace beaded dress. Below I have teamed it with accessories.

Evelyn Lace Beaded Wedding Dress – £750

Sequin Leaf Headband – £35

Alice Floral Clutch Bag – £49

Alice Slingback Platform Shoes £99

A Bridal Headpiece Workshop

As a woman who has a creative mind I love to attend workshops and I’m finding some lovely ones aimed at DIY Brides and Hen Parties at the moment.
The most recent one was organised by Nicola from Silver Sixpence in her Shoe  who specializes in vintage inspired accessories.
The venue was the lovely bakery And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon, in Didsbury, Manchester,  where we were offered tea and cake before we set to work on creating a headpiece of our choice.  Quite possibly the best carrot cupcake I’ve ever tasted… Yummy!
There were five of us in total. One bride was marrying at the end of the month and was hoping to create the perfect piece. The other three brides were at different stages of planning their wedding but wanted to learn how to create the look they wanted for their big day.
After we had a good rummage through fabric and embellishments in vintage crystal dishes or teacups, we set to work with the help and guidance of Nicola who is extremely knowledgeable and offered as much help we needed.
The Bride workshop lasted three hours in total and we had a leisurely chat as a group as we sewed and created. Our conversation was mainly about wedding plans which helped to create an exciting atmosphere very fitting with the occasion.
Its amazing how time flies when you are concentrating on something so intricate. Before we knew it we were up against the clock to complete our masterpiece.  My attempt at a birdcage veil is below.

Me and my finished head piece

We all enjoyed the experience and we were really happy with the finished results. For those that ran out of time, they left with everything they needed to finish the piece at home rather than rush.
The Headpiece Workshop would suit anyone and is a great way to include young flower girls, bridesmaids and mother of the bride or groom for an alternative hen party
Don’t panic if you have never picked up a sewing needle in your life. Nicola is on hand to make sure you feel at ease and will offer as much help as you need.
Parties can be tailor-made to suit your specific requirements and can be held in your home or Nicola could recommend alternative hotel or bakery venues that she works very closely with.
For more information contact Nicola at Silver Sixpence in her Shoe
If any of our Beautilicious Brides Over 40 attend any of these events we would love to see your photographs.
We are looking for more Hen Party or DIY Bride ideas all over the UK. If you are interested in featuring on Beautilicious40 please email me on info@beautilicious40bride.co.uk

Second Time Wedding in Boston

On the 28th February 2011 Trilby and Matt married in their hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Trilby, although only 37, has been married before and wishes to share her touching inspirational story with Beautilicious40 Brides that may be getting married for a second time.

Trilby is the Online Business Development Director for Wonderful Wraps that are based in Poole in Dorset. Her role for the UK based company allows her to work from her overseas home in Boston, USA.  (See the feature on WonderfulWraps at the end of this remarkable wedding story).
I now hand you over to Trilby to describe her wedding day in her own words.

“Before I go through the details of our wedding day I wish to share the story of how Matt and I met. I hope that what you read shows you that true love really has no boundaries”
“I had recently separated from my then husband, a pilot, who I had been with for seven years and married to for just one year. I made the very difficult decision to leave him, and my home and lived for a little while between friends floors and my Mums whilst still working a demanding role as duty Manager for the premier team at Heathrow, supporting agents and VIP passengers”.

“I decided to take refuge in a place I had always seen as my ‘get away island’, Barbados. (Working for a fabulous airline had its benefits!)  I was meant to go with a group of girls but as fate would have it only one could go which was perfect, as I just wanted to be a recluse, be reflective, get some clarity and stay away from the male species.”
“On the second night my Manager flew in and we went out, which led to drinks until the early hours. I wasn’t enjoying it as I was getting harassed by men! I was about to leave when an American said very softly to me ‘Wow, you sure get a lot of attention.”   I replied ‘and I’m sick of it, do you want a drink!” A gin and tonic later, I left giving him the wrong beach that I was staying on by mistake”
”The next night my friend and I rolled into one of the bars late and sure enough I had a tap on the back – it was Matt!  This time we sat and chatted all night whilst my friend danced the night away.  It turned out, he had been going to Barbados for 17 years, like myself but our paths had never crossed”
“Matt is a surfer and went religiously twice a year, EVERY year and was on holiday by himself just to surf. We became inseparable for the rest of the week but I flew back to England and he returned to Boston, USA”.
“Two weeks after we first met I made the decision to fly to Boston to see Matt. Even though I was going through the most awful time and my heart was breaking with my divorce. I knew I had to follow my gut instinct. Another two weeks after my Boston visit we met in Barbados again, and at this point we both just knew we were soul mates”.
“Matt had already decided to come back with me after this trip, so I managed to get him on the same flight as me and we returned to England.  In the taxi on the way down to Mums, surfboard and all, the song by Estelle ‘American Boy’ had just been released and we both laughed as we thought it might be a sign. And boy was it!”
“That was  four years ago and I am now married to Matt, live in Boston, Massachusetts . I’m a resident of the United States and the owner of two rescue cats!  We have been through long-term sickness, divorce, US Immigration, leaving my dream job and a huge gulf of water but we battled through and we did it”.
“I’m sure some of you may have felt similar to me when I said yes on a beach in Rhode Island – should I try this again? How can I make this day feel different to the first time round? Where shall we get married? Should this be a small affair? What should I wear? Shall we just run away?!!”
“Luckily for me, Matt wanted to take full control of the day’s events! This was, after all, his first time (and he believes ONLY time!) of going down the marriage path. Of course, I also wanted to put my personal touches and style on what was to be one of the most amazing (and emotional) days of my life”
“Our Flowers were created by the most fabulous independent Florist based here in New England called Black Iris Floral Design. I took control of this area – not really trusting Matt with colours!   I chose golden tones mixed with vibrant, spring yellow roses which were a key element as they were Matt’s recently deceased Grandmothers favourite flower.  I also wanted the flowers to have vintage feel to compliment my dress choice”.

“I chose my dress with the help of the most fabulous lady, Eleanor, that I met whilst browsing in Valentino in Boston (Valentino also have stores in London)”.
“Eleanor was sent to me from heaven,  I truly felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.  After looking at designs well out of my price range I described to Eleanor the Vintage vibe I wanted to achieve (this was second time around after all!). And with her help, all three must have items were found!  The dress, the shoes and the vintage Valentino wrap.  I’m still in love with all three”.
(Have a look at Wonderful Wraps Light Cashmere collection. You may find something similar that would work for your day)

My accessories were very understated from Swarovski.  I chose golden ear-rings and bracelet to blend with the rest of the theme.
(We have similar items at Wonderful Wraps - see the accessories section of the website).

“For the ceremony, we decided to do it right by our fire place in our own home, with just a handful of  guests.  Matt’s Mum, her best friend, my cousin and his husband, and of course, our animals!”

“My Mum and Step Father couldn’t make the journey ‘across the pond’ but we made sure they did not miss a minute by having them right there on our laptop”.

“They were even the first people to sit in the white Hummer limousine that was waiting outside the house to take us to our reception location”.

“Our reception started at the Fairmont Copley Plaza and continued at one of our favourite restaurants in the South End – Stella. They allowed me to dress the table, add the champagne favours, our yellow rose wedding cupcakes and of course, all the beautiful flowers”.
“I painstakingly, made all the tags, labels and place settings the night before the wedding!! Thanks to paper source I could get all the tools and materials needed to create something that would fit with our theme. Even though it was last minute but it felt more personal and special as it was made by my hand”
“This defined what this second marriage was about, personal and made of love, REAL LOVE”.
“The Cupcakes were even more special as the stand was sent to me by one of my best friends as a wedding gift , so it felt like she was with me in a strange sort of way”.
“The most amazing and poignant part of this day was knowing that my first wedding, a full blown big white wedding, four bands, llamas and televised, was sadly more about the day than what it should have been…”
… Two people who just want to be together for a lifetime”
“It’s so easy to get caught up in a roller coaster ride that you can’t get off. I’m sure that many of you thinking about getting married for the second time may agree with me when I say…
…you just want it to be really personal and about the two of you. Everything else is secondary”.
“We kept the reception small and only had Matt’s friends present. A decision not easily made, as I have the most amazing and vast set of friends. They all understood that I wanted to focus on Matt’s wishes and it turned out to be exactly what we hoped for”.
“Ladies, second time around can be so great, so different, whether divorce has brought you here, or bereavement, it’s important to live and love no matter what”

Introducing Crystal Bouquets by Tilly.

I first met Carol Clayton from Crystal Bouquets by Tilly’ at a wedding fair in January 2012. I was particularly drawn to her stand at Tatton Park because everything was so sparkly and pretty.

I love a bit of Swarovski bling!

The quality of her work is exceptional and when I picked one of the bouquets up, it felt almost ‘magical’ in my hands. I can imagine how delighted Carol’s brides must be when they set eyes on their own personal treasured bouquet.

'Grace' Bouquet

I have been in regular contact with Carol since then and I’m delighted to showcase ‘Crystal Bouquets by Tilly’ on Beautilicious 40 Here are a few words from Carol on how she got started:-

“I started my business in 2009 after searching for something a little different for my own wedding. My husband and I had decided to marry in Cyprus so I was aware a floral bouquet was out of the question.”

“I wanted something totally different but it had to be ready before we set off. A very dear friend of mine helped me and eventually we came up with something very special – a crystal wedding bouquet!”
“After the wedding, I looked at my bouquet (which I loved) and I thought to myself…… “there must be other ladies out there that would be proud to have such a beautiful bouquet and that it could also be a lovely business” …..and I was right.”
“My bouquets are mainly crystal and I use only the best by Swarovski. I also create seed bead bouquets by using different colours and textures of seed beads and sprinkle them with some Swarovski crystal too.”

A seed beaded and crystal bouquet from the 'annie' range in gold

'Harper' full silver Swarovski Crystal Bouquet

“I have a very popular vintage style bouquet called “Meredith,” which is named after the wonderful photographer Lesley Meredith. This bouquet holds Swarovski crystals, glass pearls, diamante accents and lots of other pretty beads.”

'Meredith' Vintage Style Bouquet

“I use non-tarnish silver wire and twist every bead onto the wire as the creation begins.  Below is a close up the the ‘Ava’  short teardrop bouquet and you can see the work involved and where I have twisted the crystals onto the wire.

“‘Crystal Bouquets by Tilly’ has really taken off and grown a great deal since those early days. Every bouquet I make is very special and created with affection. I get really excited every time the crystal delivery arrives and I can get creating. I’m proud to say I love my work,”

Many thanks to Carol of ‘Crystal Bouquets by Tilly’ for sharing her story and images. I am sure you will all agree they are an absolute treasure.
