Charlotte Garratt – Couture Collection 2013

Charlotte Bridal is a bespoke design studio run by Charlotte Garratt and is based in South London. Charlotte creates bespoke designs for brides using only the finest fabrics and couture techniques. Launched in 2011, Charlotte became one of the youngest independent bridal designers in the UK.

Inspired by memories of her Grandmother creating beautiful dresses whilst sitting at her antique Singer machine, Charlotte chose to follow in her footsteps and after discovering a passion for corsetry at the age of 16, made the decision to attend the London College of Fashion. Building on her initial knowledge of corsetry whilst adding bridal wear and couture tailoring to her list of talents, brides are guaranteed a personalised service from start to finish, with every gown being created in-house at the Charlotte Garratt design studio. From first sketch through cutting the pattern and fabrics, each element is attended to by Charlotte herself, ensuring a truly personal service throughout the exciting journey of bridal couture.

In 2012 Charlotte Bridal won Best Bridal Designer in London at the Wedding Industry Expert Awards, and has grown the business to the point where she is now ready to launch into the luxury bridal market, with an exciting new re-brand under the name Charlotte Garratt, a new website, and the launch of the new Charlotte Garratt 2013 Couture Collection.

On the 20th of March Charlotte Garratt hosted an exclusive press launch event to promote her new rebrand under the name of Charlotte Garratt and to showcase her new 2013 Couture Collection. Held at the luxurious 30 Pavilion Road, a country style townhouse situated in the heart of London’s fashionable Knightsbridge, the event comprised of a fabulous opera performance, professional dance and catwalk show. Following the catwalk show an evening of networking was accompanied by bubbly, macarons and sweet treats. At the end of the evening guests left with a fabulous goody bag full of gifts from the amazing team behind the event.

The Opening of Oscar de la Renta’s Bridal Salon in London – Hosted by Mark Niemierko

Mark Niemierko, the leading event and wedding planner, recently hosted the who’s who within the UK’s wedding industry to celebrate the arrival of Oscar de la Renta’s bridal collection to London.

The champagne and canapés reception was held within the famed American designer’s first London store, located on Mount Street, in London’s most elegant shopping district Mayfair, on the evening of Thursday 21st March.

The 3,000 square foot store is his largest in the world. The ground floor houses daywear, fragrances and handbags, formalwear and footwear are on the first floor, and on the lower ground floor there is a separate space for bridal, children’s wear and home décor.

Invited guests were welcomed by Mark Niemierko, into the store, which for one night only showcased all of Oscar de la Renta’s bridal collections across the spaces three floors.

Niemierko Brides are huge fans of Oscar de la Renta’s wedding gowns. For Niemierko Oscar gets it right, every time. As Mark comments “a Bride should always feel like themselves on their wedding day, yet in a timeless fashion. Through elegant designs Oscar de la Renta’s bridal gowns stand the test of the time, however still manage to each have a unique sense of style and personality.”

Chilled Pommery champagne was served along with delicious canapés from the creative Chef’s at Mustard Catering. Including a black pepper macaroon with whipped goats cheese, beetroot and truffle honey and Foie gras terrine with peach chutney and truffle brioche. Heavenly.

The sweet side to the evening was showcased in the lower ground part of the store. Male-model waiters stood handsomely around a sweet table full of lollipops, marshmallows, white chocolate snowies, milk bottles, bon bon’s and a selection of Laduree macaroons. Indulgent guests snuck off with sweet treat bags to enjoy their goodies on their way home.

Florist and a firm friend of Niemierko, Rob Van Helden was on hand to fill the store with Colombian white hydrangea’s. Inspired by the campaign for Oscar de la Renta’s first bridal fragrance “Something Blue”.

Oscar’s new bridal scent, Something Blue is a floral fragrance. Fresh, light, and romantic, plus it was inspired by stephanotis flowers plucked directly from de la Renta’s home in the Dominican Republic. The Something Blue bottle cap is made of a rare blue Larimar stone that can only be found in the designer’s native Dominican Republic. The design of the box is a replica of a white lace and blue organza Oscar de la Renta gown from his current Bridal collection.

Keeping with the Something Blue theme Booth Nation turned their Gold Glitter Booth into the “Something Blue Booth”, along with a hydrangea photo backdrop.

Oscar de la Renta’s children’s wear was perfectly accessorised by a child’s dining table and matching French chairs from furniture specialists Great Hire. The table was laid with slate tiles and chalk place settings, for Mark Niemierko’s nieces and nephews. But alas Ruby, Annie and Edward didn’t make an appearance.

The entertainment for the evening was provided by Estilo Strings Quartet who played for the first hour of the evening. Followed by the voice of Kelli-Leigh, who serenaded guests on the first floor. Kelli had just returned from LA having performed at this year’s Academy Awards as backing singer for Adele, during her performance of Skyfall.

It was all too much chicness for a Thursday evening. On departure invited guests were handed an Oscar de la Renta gift bag which included one of the famous fashion houses fragrances and an exclusive set of Niemierko greeting cards, with images of past Niemierko Brides wearing Bridal gowns by Osca

Isla Jean Bridal launches an Online Boudoir

To celebrate their first birthday as one of Manchester’s most desired wedding boutiques, Isla Jean Bridal have launched a brand new, interactive online boudoir.

Just over two and a half years ago, luxury bridal boutique, Isla Jean began life as a market trader at a weekly vintage fair in Failsworth, North Manchester. Investing all of their time, money and efforts into sourcing and purchasing second-hand wedding dresses, owners Victoria Tickle and Gemma Richardson went on to make an unlikely success as a bridal market stall.

A year into business and Isla Jean was steadily finding its feet. Sales were soaring and the two best friends were succeeding at creating a budget bridal brand.

Still, the determined the duo craved a brighter future for Isla Jean. They both knew the longevity of market stall selling bridal attire would be short lived. The girls recognised they needed to assess their situation, if they were ever going to establish themselves as a premier bridal brand. Sharing a strong, reputable career- background in customer service coupled with their great sense of commercial awareness and infectious creativity, Victoria and Gemma made the pinnacle design to open a bridal boutique in the leafy village of Lees, Oldham.

Utilizing their excellent eye for detail, they saw the potential in an old, tired townhouse that was in much need of restoration. With strapped budgets and deadlines, Gemma and Victoria took it upon themselves to refurbish the entire three floors of the premise, alone! The girls found they had new skills and strengths they didn’t know existed from plastering to sanding and even laying flooring! The transformation took just 11 weeks. Comprising of long, 19 hour days and using up every ounce of physical and mental strength. There were splinters, cuts, bruises, tantrums and rivers of tears but Isla Jean finally opened its doors in June 2012.

Isla Jean prides itself on being a luxury boutique that offers brides a truly, bespoke service that is completely personal to them. This has always been one of the strongest influences regarding Gemma and Victoria’s buying decisions. They want their boutique to appeal to both traditional and unique brides. Stocking exclusive, global bridal brands such as Stephanie Allin, Cymbeline and Erica Stacey Bridal. Isla Jean also works with a number of local, independent accessory designers such as Pearl & Co as well stocking their own accessory collection ‘Isla Jean Bespoke’. Even the elegant, vintage-inspired interiors were purchased from local, antiques dealers ‘Rose & Lee Vintage Living’, echoing the girls, strong belief in supporting small, independent businesses.

Future plans for Isla Jean look set to be extremely exciting with talks of launching their first made in Manchester wedding dress collection. Ambition and drive, such as this is what sets Isla Jean apart from other bridal boutiques. They never stop trying to deliver the most amazing, diverse and superior service to their brides.

Phase Eight all started in 1979 when Patsy Seddon opened a small boutique in South London because she found it impossible to find clothes to suit her own style. Mint Green Wedding Dress for Brides Over 40

The latest trend and popular colour for 2013 is Mint Green and we can imagine Beautilicious40 brides choosing this shade for their own wedding gown.

My first vivid memory of a Mint Green dress was in 1977, the year of the Queens Silver Jubilee and my own 7th birthday party. The trend at the time was to wear long party dresses and mine had been lovingly made by my Mum in red, white and blue colours, very patriotic.

One of my friends arrived in a long floaty mint green chiffon dress. It was absolutely beautiful but also completely over the top for a birthday party. Unfortunately during the party a very large glass of dandelion and burdock was knocked over (no it wasn’t me!), covering the front of her chiffon dress. As much as the grown ups tried to reduce the damage. It was ruined! Her Mum was devastated when she came to collect her… Oops!

Mint Green is  a very fresh colour that can be used at any time of the year. Not just Spring and Summer. It would look stunning with silver in a winter snowflake theme.

Some of our Beautilicious40 Brides prefer not to marry in white and so their wedding gowns can be this stunning colour. Our research shows that there are many different interpretations of ‘Mint Green’ so once you have found your signature colour keep a swatch sample with you if you want to have an exact match.

For any bride looking for inspiration for a coloured wedding gown, a good place to start is the celebrity red carpet. Even if your budget does not extend to buying direct from the designers, you can get a general idea of styles you like and opt to have something similar made.

Yvonne Gillon Couture – ideal for Brides Over 40, Mature Brides, Second Time Weddings

Yvonne Gillon specialises in dressing Mothers of Brides and Grooms from all over the country, offering a couture service rarely matched outside London.

This service also extends to making a unique dress or outfit for Beautilicious Brides marrying later in life.

Yvonne Gillon prides herself in the ability to construct a beautiful ‘made to measure’ garment that enhances any figure and fits perfect!

The beauty of ‘couture’ is that the customer chooses how the garment develops. Whether a lady wants to hide a tummy, enhance a slim waist, disguise the upper arms or show off a shapely leg.

Photography by Beverley

Yvonne started to dabble in design when she was just 5 years old and created a wardrobe of outfits for her dolls. By the time she was a teenager, she would regularly run up an outfit for a night out on a whim.

Her career officially began 25 years ago when she started to make and sell children’s wear before moving on to occasion wear where she has a wealth of experience in producing flattering outfits for women of all ages, shapes and sizes.

I had the pleasure of meeting Yvonne and her team in the Yvonne Gillon Studio in Marple, Cheshire, to get a glimpse how everything worked and it was hugely impressive.  I was warmly greeted by Helen who is very hands on with appointments, emails, press releases and much more and shown around the extremely organised studio and offered a cup of tea (always a nice touch).

On occasion I have stepped into upmarket boutiques and felt a little intimidated even whilst browsing. This is definitely not the case at Yvonne Gillon.

Yvonne herself has a warm, welcoming, lovely nature, not in the least bit imposing with the ultimate desire to create your  very own unique and perfect item.

Yvonne was in the ‘cutting room’ adding the finishing touches to a beautiful teal coloured full length gown that was being worn the following day for a renewal of vows ceremony at Peckforton Castle.  To read the Wedding feature click here.

There was a selection of ‘off the peg’ items that could be altered to fit perfectly, along with a range of millinery that had been supplied by local business Milly Mango.

I am particularly drawn to the idea of having a dress individually designed and made just for me as a one off. My only problem is that I’ve seen that many stunning gowns recently I wouldn’t know where to begin on my preferred design. I already have a growing pile of possibles and haven’t even set a date!

But… No need to worry as this is where Yvonne’s talent, expertise and knowledge would come into play as she would tune into your ideas, highlighting your ‘best bits’, and the design would end up being the perfect dress – ‘The One’.

Customers are advised to book an appointment to browse the samples and have a chat with Yvonne about creating an exclusive garment. One that you can guarantee NOBODY else will be wearing! Ideal for Beautilicious40 Brides.
