The High Street is an affordable option for bridal wear particularly if it is a small intimate occasion, a destination wedding or for brides on a smaller budget.

If The Coloured Shoe Fits…. Then Wear It !

I have a confession to make!  I may as well just get it out in the open… I have an addiction!

It consumes me. I have symptoms, palpitations, an adrenalin rush, an overwhelming desire to squeal…

… whenever I see a beautiful pair of shoes !

I never used to be like this. But as soon as I hit mid-30s I had urges. I loved how gorgeous heels made me feel powerful, sexy and feminine and how on a bad day they would cheer me up just by slipping them on my feet even if I was lying in my dressing gown!

However, my addiction can be negative when I allocate myself time to search for images of shoes for a feature! It has taken me twice as long to research as I daydream! Before I knew it, a ‘must have’ pair of  coloured shoes were on their way to Rose Cottage, my humble abode. Oops!

I blame Carrie Bradshaw from Sex & the City for her fabulous array of shoes and her breathtaking shoe closet! Guess what my winning lottery ticket will be buying me?

It’s ok to dream… right?

Wedding shoes are so pretty and sparkly and glamorous, and… sigh!

When I chose my wedding shoes for my first wedding in 1994, I went for comfort and practicality. A little kitten heel shoe with a bow on the front in white satin, under a full skirted gown and it was the right choice at the time.

But now the kitten heel would not be an option, for me anyway! Practicality has gone out of the window – I want heels!  I want to walk tall in my beautiful elegant dress, feeling like a million dollars, feeling like ‘me’.

Men will NEVER understand the ‘relationship’ between a woman and her shoes. The fact that we may have a range of blue shoes, but they might not be ‘the right’ blue for our outfit somehow doesn’t register.  Saying that, my other half, James, does have a soft spot for Thomas Pink Shirts!

The  first of many shoe articles on Beautilicious is all about Colour!

I’m LOVING the fact that some brides are choosing to wear coloured wedding shoes under their gowns or proudly showing them off in a stunning 1950s tea length gown.  It adds fun to the outfit, it’s practical as they show up less dirt, they look incredible on photographs and of course we are more likely to wear them again and again and again afterwards. BONUS!

What Colour?

What Colour?  That is the beauty of it.  You can choose any colour of the rainbow for your wedding shoes and even start a colour theme around a fabulous pair of shoes.

If you are struggling to find the exact shade in the shops you can opt to have the shoes dyed instead.

I have used this service with Girls of Elegance and it was very efficient. They have an option to ‘try before you dye’. You purchase the shoe first and make sure its the right style and size. You then return the shoe to them with a fabric swatch, they dye the shoe to match and return the shoe back to you in the exact shade. Perfect for wedding shoes for brides, bridesmaids and mother-of-the-bride.

It’s simple and the whole process took about three weeks and it’s a service I would highly recommend.

I wonder if this feature will have the same effect on you that it had on me… to buy a pair of fabulous coloured shoes?

My advice to our Beautilicous Brides over 40 is… ‘Embrace the colour! Be unique! Be YOU!’ x
