For at least five years I have dreamed of having a Boudoir Photoshoot done after I first spotted some images on the internet and as I am a lover of Vintage, Burlesque and Hollywood Glamour it became an absolute personal ‘to do’.
Well, last week my dream came true as I headed over to see Nicola at My Boudoir in Ramsbottom, Lancashire. Experiencing it first hand was a perfect way to introduce Boudoir to my Beautilicious40 Bride readers who may wish to surprise their groom with a personal wedding or anniversary gift.
The one thing that I was confident about beforehand was that even though I am self critical about my own size I knew that Nicola would take the most amazing photographs regardless of my flaws. I had browsed the My Boudoir website in advance to get an idea of the type of image and era I preferred and arrived with a little nervous anticipation.
Nicola welcomed me into her lounge and offered me refreshments while we discussed what I wanted out of the shoot. I explained that I was a little nervous at being a woman over 40 (42) and a size 14 instead of my preferred size 12. I have had two children and have wobbly bits (!) but she made me feel at ease straight away explaining that any of the areas I am not comfortable with would be hidden from view and any blemishes could be removed in editing. She has photographed many women all shapes and sizes and one of her most recent shoots was a woman aged 64 who looked every inch a Hollywood movie star!
I was then introduced to Sarah Elliott who was my hair and make-up artist who set to work on giving me a stunning 1950s/1960s Hollywood makeover. Big hair with wavy curls and dramatic smokey eyes and pale lips. I was completely blown away by her results!
After my makeover had finished I headed upstairs to the relaxed atmosphere of a bedroom studio. You needn’t worry about being able to ‘pose’ either, as Nicola explains where she would like you to be and then tweaks until it is just right. She directs you in such a friendly manner that with each shot of the camera you become more and more relaxed and love every second.
I took some lingerie with me but Nicola also has many props, corsets and additions to compliment your outfit choice if you prefer. There are various packages available depending on the amount of images you wish to have. The edited images are supplied on a disc or for an additional cost you can order a stunning photobook album.
My own Boudoir photoshoot consisted of four looks producing a final six images. As my shoot has been done for a feature on the Beautilicious40 Bride website my images are for public viewing but if you wanted to be discrete and private only you would see your images if you wish.
Firstly I chose a black vintage basque and stocking set for a typical Boudoir look.
My second choice was a peach colour 1950s style satin teddy with pearl accessories. This was a definite softer look and my personal favourite.
The third choice was picked by Nicola who styled me wearing a short oriental kimono, holding a gold ornate hand mirror. This is such a gorgeous combination of colour.
My final pose of the shoot was a naked shot and as it was at the end I was completely relaxed by this point. As you can see it has been perfectly styled to be a soft romantic image where I was lay on lots of soft Bridal Tulle – perfect for our Beautilicious40 Brides. I felt amazing as this was being taken.
All in all I am thrilled with the images that Nicola has created. Everything was absolute perfection from the initial consultation, the makeover with Sarah, the dressing up and feeling sexy, beautiful and confident. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend My Boudoir to any woman and I will definitely be heading back to Nicola for another shoot in the future. It does wonders for self esteem!
Please note that appointments do get booked up fast. Please mention to Nicola that you have been recommended to My Boudoir via Janet at Beautilicious40 Bride.
“All our features are aimed towards our readers being Brides Over 40. (40 plus brides). Rather than calling these fabulous ladies ‘mature Brides‘ we call them ‘Beautilicious Brides’ who are marrying later in life, whether it be a first or second time wedding or even a celebration ceremony for renewing vows”
